How to become more spiritual (Part 2/2)

IMG_6006

What exactly is spirituality? I define spirituality as your relationship with your internal self, that is – your relationship with everything that goes on within you.

Your spiritual practice should overflow into every aspect of your day

Sometimes we can make the mistake of spending 20 minutes in meditation and calling it “spiritual”, and then go about the rest of the day where nothing is spiritual.

We feel that from 9-5 we are trapped in the unspiritual reality of real life and responsibilities. And then when we get home, we may sculpt out 30 minutes of our evening for some attempt at “mindfulness.”

But spirituality is not something you do when you are home from work and then feel like a terror or act like a terror for the rest of your day.

2 things you need to become more spiritual (Part 1/2)

What is the purpose of spirituality?

I think it’s important to always know why you are doing something, because why you do something influences how you do something, and how you do something is how you live.

Spirituality is a very trendy topic these days, and everyone is doing it for different reasons. So, ask yourself, why do you crave it? What is the inspiration for you to sit, close your eyes, and meditate?

Do you do it because it will bring you peace and a stress free life?

Do you do it because it will make you a happier person?

The Joy of Nothing

IMG_5028

Today I wanted to write about the joy of nothing. I wanted to write a post the way I usually do, to explain this concept, but a poem came through instead.

Some of the most beautiful things that have happened to me are best expressed as poetry. This is a semi-formed poem. It didn’t become the poem I intended it to be, it became something else.

It was born out of a meditation and a certain knowingness I have come to understand in my life that, maybe there is nothing standing in the way of me and my soul. Maybe it takes absolutely nothing to be joyful.

What to do when you are tired of your own drama

I try to see life is just a sequence of a different situations and environments that we have to work our way through, from the day we are born to the day we die. Life never stagnates, it is constantly changing from one thing to another.

Sometimes we know how to handle a situation we are presented with, but most of the time, we don’t, and there is a steep learning curve. And when we are given a situation that we don’t know how to handle, we believe we are going through a a rough patch, a crisis in our life. But isn’t that what living is; changing, learning, growth?

When we were a baby, we didn’t know how to walk, but we learned. We crawled. We held onto the couch for dear life. We took our first stumbling steps. We defied gravity. We fell. Oh boy, we fell a lot. We fell into our parents arms, but we also fell on carpet, and concrete. We grazed our knees and bumped our head. We cried when it hurt, and laughed when it stopped, when we were reminded how wonderful and surprising life is.

So, you want to meditate?

IMG_9398

In my last post, I shared with you my meditation story. Today I would like to share with you some tips and answer some questions about beginning your own meditation practice that can feed your soul too.

I feel like the idea of meditation is so glamorous these days, but after doing it for a short while, you come to realize that there isn’t anything glamorous about this, and we lose hope and inspiration. In fact, I haven’t found any of my spiritual practices glamorous. But, I have found them hugely rewarding.

Meditation for beginners: My meditation story

IMG_4851

I first tried meditation when I was 16. It was the time when I was first introduced to the world of spirituality and personal development.

Now, 10 years later, my ideas, understanding and expectations of meditation, what it is exactly, and what it is for, is different to when I first started.

Back then, I remember sitting down, closing my eyes and trying desperately to “just not think about anything.”

I tried having conversations with myself in my mind with a voice that was kinder to me than I was.

I tried having conversations with myself in my mind with a voice that was not very kind at all.

Chandra Namaskar: Yoga of the divine feminine

Lately I have been thinking a lot about the moon. When I practice my Namaskar Meditation each morning, many times my heart has gone to the beautiful moon. I have been feeling a desire to deepen my practice by honouring the influence of the moon on my being.

With today being a New Moon, I am inspired to write about the moon and it’s divine feminine energy.
