How to organize your life

How to organize your life

This post has been sitting in my drafts since last January (gasp). It’s time to get it out there. Now you can only imagine how many posts I have that are half-written and in the works! I hope I make 2015 a year of getting it all out there.

This is quite a lengthy post but about a topic that is of great interest to me; organization! It is something that is useful at all times, so a reminder, at least for myself, is always helpful.

Are you motivated by fear or by The Vision?

I am back! It has felt like many lifetimes have been contained in the last few weeks. It has been such a golden time of my life. The wedding ceremony was holy and beautiful. I felt entirely present, calm and deep in love.
I digress….This post is not supposed to be about our wedding – this post is about the ability we have to make life open up, or contract upon itself. This post is about fear.
When we feel fear in our heart it usually results in a couple of things. Either it causes us to be unable to act because of the fear. It causes us to remain silent when we should speak up. The fear can be so paralyzing that we avoid putting ourself out there, we avoid immersing ourself in life because our fears stop us. Most of us are aware of this fear because it’s the one that we feels limits us the most in life. It is the “Shoulda woulda coulda” kind of fear.
But fear can also cause us to act and this is the fear I want to talk about today. What about the things we do in life because of fear?

Why relationships should be right before they are good

We tend to believe that we should have a good relationship with everyone in our life. But have you found that this is almost impossible? Even if you feel totally good about them, they might start to hate you for something eventually. Or vice versa.
This is why I believe that it is more important for a relationship to be right, than for it to be “good”. And as it often happens, things that are right in life, usually turn out to be good after all.
So what do I mean by a relationship being “right” and “good”?

The contemplative life

Lately, I felt an inner ache for a more peaceful and contemplative life. Over the last year, something has shifted inside me and my focuses have changed. Expanded, maybe. I want to be wholesome, not exclusive. After thinking a lot about how “small is wonderful” I began to cherish life in the smallest ways, to the biggest ways – in all the ways that life comes.

I have been contemplating how to live a bright, vibrant life and what this means to me. For me, this means to live with consciousness and presence.

To open up each moment and live in the essence of it. To pursue the quiet pastimes of reading, writing, thinking. I used to do a lot of that a few years ago, but as I started getting busy with other things (and sometimes busy with the wrong things), my practices of contemplation and solitude fell away. There’s nothing wrong with “busy”. But I want to be conscious of my “busy”. And I want to be happy during my “busy”.

If you want to change how your life feels there is a process to it. You first have to make the commitment to creating what you truly care about. In this way, your mind becomes organized and focused. Once your mind is focused, your emotions and feelings begin to re-arrange and organize themselves. Then comes your body and your vital life energies. They re-orient themselves to what you have focused on. Once these elements are pointing in the direction that you have committed to, your ability to create and manifest is awakened. And life will being to feel the way you want it to.

I would like to share with you some notes I written on what it is to live a quiet, contemplative life.

Saying YES (and NO) to life

One of the greatest gifts we have as a conscious being is that we have the power of choice. We can choose how we want to exist in this world – with ease or with dis-ease. We can choose where our thoughts dwell. We can choose how much we open, and how much we close. We can choose what we strengthen within us – the shadows or the light.

Sometimes in life we have to say YES and sometimes we have to say NO. If we live consciously, and make these choices with our eyes and heart open, we can craft the perfect balance of openness and strength.

The essence of your spiritual practice

Hello friends,

I am writing this post while snacking on fresh pomegranate and jackfruit in this beautiful paradise!

I would consider myself a “spiritual” person, along with, I’m sure, many of the readers of this blog.  But lately, I have been contemplating; what does “being spiritual” really mean?

Perhaps it means various things to various people, but for me, it means that I believe in and cherish the subtle elements of life. I believe in God. I believe in devotion. I believe in being conscious on my path of self development.

Over the course of the last few years I have learned some valuable lessons in tweaking my spiritual practice. I am only at the very beginning of my journey of self-realization, but I have come to a few observations regarding the nature of ones spiritual practice. I would like to share them with you here.

Your Life’s Work: a discourse on Dharma

When I turned 18, I got two tattoos, one on each wrist. Both in Hindi script, one wrist- Karma, and the other- Dharma. It is only now, a few years later, that I am beginning to comprehend the weight of these words.  What were once just spiritual aesthetic words, now hold so much meaning and serve as a reminder of the two guiding principles of my life.

In the last couple of years I have learned some powerful lessons on Karma. And now my lessons in Dharma begin.

Dharma means your sacred duty, inspired action, the work of your life, your blessed talents. Living at the center of your dharma means to live in a way that is aligned with your sacred duty. It is the act of living in alignment with your true calling in life.

Recently, the concept of Dharma has become very important to me. It was something I have not contemplated deeply before, but now I am filled with an inner yearning to plant my feet firmly in the earth of my life, to stand tall and live from the center of my divine order. To live a life saturated in my dharma, my purpose.

My friend Arlene gifted me with an extraordinary book; The Great Work of your life by Stephen Cope. She did not know that questions of my own quest for my dharma had been swimming in my own mind for some time now. The book she gave me helped answer questions and bought clarity to the hazy cloud of dharma that had been hanging low in my thoughts.

I share with you the notes of my research, my findings, my lessons, my spiritual to-do list. If this is a topic that interests you, I would recommend reading the book by Stephen Cope as a good introduction to getting acquainted with your life’s work.

10 truths of having a strong sense of self.

This is a post I’ve been meaning to publish for a long time as it is a personal one for me. It’s something I am putting my focus on at this point in my life. It’s all about developing a strong sense of self. When I think of a strong sense of self, I think of emotional maturity. I see it as a strong beam of light from within me – instead of a flickering flame. Over the course of a few posts I will explore 10 truths of having and maintaining a strong sense of self. In this post I want to describe each one briefly, and in the following ones I will go into some other ones in depth with specific things we can do to achieve them! Wow, haven’t I got so much fun lined up for you 😉

What we need to develop is a strong sense of self. A powerful inner strength that resounds from somewhere deep within you.

You have a strong sense of self when:
