Poetry Friday: They

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

Maya angelou

They

they have looked for holes in your soul,
they have peeled and peered
through the skin of your fears

but maybe one day they will find
that the holes in your soul
were windows to God’s mind

and they have found your broken pieces
shattered piles in your darkest spaces
fragile, sharp, painful pieces

but the broken pieces that they found in you
were just mirrors
reflecting their own parts through

and they have thrown salt into your invisible wounds
and picked at the scars
of your silent ruins

but if they looked they would see within
that the wounds of your soul were cracks
that let the light leak in

and they have dug deep
struck dirt and said
“you are dark and impure”

but they did not dig deep enough
to strike the golden stillness
of your core

  1. Malavika, when the cold wind of winter burns my face your words warm my heart and remind me that we’re not alone in the universe. Love…
