How to find lightness in the dark (Part 1)

It is April. My birthday month. And I am coming to a time of great reflection over the way my life has been so far, especially in the last year or so. Where the only word to describe life would have been….sdkofhisiodhfaliuohlsidhaifdsgajsbfaoaaksdnflsl. And not in a good way!

I was a very sad person for a long time. I felt like I was stuck on a merry-go-round, spinning uncontrollably round and round, and it was making me sick to my stomach, but I just couldn’t get off it.

My life was hanging low, hanging dark and deep for a long time. Like the mist that blankets a lake on a cold winters morning. But now the winter has lifted, and heaviness of my own breath is gone. A new sunlight glitters delicately where the shadows once slept.

It was not/is not an easy journey to take. And every step required some kind of internal strength that I didn’t know I had. I wanted to share with you my reflections during this time. And a few of the things I did, some of the steps I took, that helped me move forward in life. I hope they will be helpful for you. I will also post this post in a few instalments as it is quite long. Here is the first part.

Your spiritual bank account

Hello fwends!

Oh, how I wish I would post in my blog more! Early morning is usually the time I am most inspired to spend time on writing for my blog, but I always (sadly) decide that it would be better for me to channel that energy on studying instead. And so I do. And then by around 7pm I’m too mentally tired to write 🙁 But anyway, I am so happy to be here tonight!

Today we are going to talk about our spiritual bank account…..

Why I’m not scared of the word God anymore: New Age Spirituality Vs. Religion

I first stepped on to my self-development path when I was 16 and miserable. Not that my sadness was anything extraordinary or heartbreakingly poignant, just a case of the teenage blues, I guess. I was bored of life and bored of myself. I started by reading self-help books, which is usually the gateway-concept of New Age Spirituality these days. These books told me that I was beautiful, confident and perfect just the way I am. So I believed that for a while, and I think that at the time, it helped in some weird way. Then I came across all the classic hallmarks of New Age Spirituality, like – The law of attraction, angels, spirit guides, animal totems, lucid dreaming, “the secret”, meditation, psychics, “intuition is a muscle bla bla bla”. You know, all the fundamentals. So after my “self-help” stage, I found myself moving into this “New-Age Spirituality” thing. Spirituality of the new age; a chance for the non-religious to explore spiritual issues without submitting to the old guy in the sky (God) and his rules. I was happy there; happy to be away from religion, happy to be able to make up my own mind about my intimate spiritual beliefs and how I saw the world, and proud to say that though I may not believe in God, I had found my own special thing to believe in.

So I started wading through the shallow waters of the self-help market, followed by the murky waters of New-Age Spirituality, and I just continued to go deeper and deeper. And what was I searching for? I was searching for knowledge and wisdom on how to live a good life and how to cultivate happiness. I began to gain more and more profound understanding of the laws of the universe, and I was so excited by my discoveries. I could see the horizon in the distance. Somehow, everything I was learning was slowly coming to an end and soon I would be at the beginning of the next stage, the next level of my pursuit for spiritual understanding. I was getting closer and closer. I wondered what could be more “true” than what I already deemed to be true. I could only imagine and ponder what could be on the other side of this meaningful journey I was on. What was behind that closed door? Finally I got there, at the beginning of the next leg of my journey. And what did I find?…dun dun dun…..

Chakras: 7 year development life-cycles

Click into the image to see it bigger.

This is a table of human development of the chakras. I did not invent this table, you can find it here (the original text is in russian but you could put it into google translator if you are not russian speaking). The table was designed to gives a graphic illustration of the seven year cycle of human development according to the Vedic Treaties Chakravidya. The table shows the ideal progression of an individual, but of course, we should also take into account the specific characteristics of each individual in particular. However, the general principles are outlined as follows:

According to this philosophy, our life moves in 7 year cycles corresponding with each of the 7 chakra centers located in our light body. We have one dominant chakra for each cycle, corresponding to each row of the table. In the first 7 years of life (age 1-7) we are influenced by the root chakra, from ages 8-14; the sacral chakra, from 15-21; the solar plexus, and so on and so forth.

Within these 7 year cycles we also climb another 7-chakra ladder (corresponding to the top row of chakras on our table and the columns they represent) which takes us from The Root chakra to the Crown Chakra. These influences affect us (ideally) on a yearly basis. Every cycle begins with fear (the root chakra) and every cycle ends with spirituality (the crown chakra).

After completing a 7 year cycle, we enter the first stage of our second year cycle. This is our Crisis Year since the first year of a new cycle is under the influence of the Root Chakra: Fear.

Another noteworthy occasion is when we are under the influence of 2 of the same chakra centers – this is indicated by the gray boxes in the table. These are the years that that particular chakra is most dominant in your life.

Each chakra in this table is represented by these key themes associated with each energy center:

The Root Chakra: Fear

The Sacral Chakra: Feelings

The Solar Plexus: Proactivity

The Heart Chakra: Harmony

The Throat Chakra: Philosophy

The Third Eye Chakra: Wisdom

The Crown Chakra: Spirituality

Year 1-7 The Root Chakra: Fear

1 year (fear+fear): Survival. The one year old child is motivated by the root chakra in both dimensions. Since the root chakra is primarily the survival-instinct chakra, these little people are motivated by fear and their only goal at this age is to simply survive.

The anatomy of our lightbody: Prana

What is Prana?

The word Prana is sanskrit for “Vital life energy”. It is the energy of life that flows through us. The cells and tissues in our body are controlled by the nervous system. If our nervous system gives of a command by way of electrical impulses, our gross body will respond to it. Our nervous system is in turn, influenced by form of light energy called Prana. Our prana interacts with our consciousness by a process called Pranamaya.

When does Prana appear?

How to discover your life-purpose: finding a purpose that fits

One of the most frequent questions I get asked during a reading is “What is my life purpose?”

Have you ever thought about it? What am I here to do? Is there a purpose for me at all?

Your life purpose and your day job

Some people believe that because they are not in a job that they enjoy, they are not living their life’s purpose. This may or may not be true, but it is certainly not an absolute.

I don’t believe your day job has to be your life purpose, but rather your life purpose is a cumulative sense of spiritual integrity – a sustained feeling that what you are doing matters, that who you are makes a difference, and that you are living the kind of life you deserve.

Your life job may be your life purpose. But more often than not your day job could serve as a vessel for you achieve your life purpose. Your day job could provide you with all the learning and growth opportunities you need in order to achieve some part of your life purpose.

There are many options. So don’t be disheartened. Your life purpose isn’t to be the “CEO of a company” or a “hairdresser” or a “engineer”. Your life purpose is more related to the impact you make on the world, and on yourself.

Your life purpose doesn’t necessarily scream at you.

If you are waiting for some kind of awe-inspiring, life-changing moment when suddenly what you are here to do just screams at you – you could be waiting for a long time.

Very few things in life are that black and white. Spiritual stability is found in the subtleties.

A good indicator of whether you are living close to far from your purpose is to check your emotional compass. Is your life leaving you with a feeling of satisfaction? Are you on your path towards what you deem is important to you?

By following the directions on your emotional compass that makes you feel good, and moving away from the directions don’t agree with you, you start to be selective about the kind of experiences you have. The more selective you can be about the experiences you choose to have, the more you bring your purpose to life.

How to discover your life purpose!:

Yoga and poetry with breakfast

Today is a good day. I woke up with the Sun and, as promised, performed 20 pairs of the Sun salutation in this gorgeous sun room my aunt has upstairs. It’s an empty room, with white walls, coral floors, and just large spaces in the walls where the windows should be. It is open and wonderful. The cool morning air belongs here. Man, that yoga session kicked my butt!!
